ASHRAE 1090-RP Development of a Two-Dimensional Transient Model of Snow-Melting Systems, and Use of the Model for Anaylsis of Design Alternatives

Sponsor:  ASHRAE

Investigators:  J.D. Spitler, S.J. Rees

Students:  M. Chullaparambil, X. Xiao

Description:  ASHRAE has recently completed a project to revise design data for Snow melting systems (946-RP) - the first time for 40 years. This project has required the development of a two-dimensional heat transfer model of the heating elements within the slab. This model has been designed to work within a design program, using selected snow storm weather data, to calculate the required power inputs to meet the design criteria. (Project duration 1/1999-6/2000).
